Volvo XC40 First To Test Out New Engine

By  |

Volvo has come out with a new entry-level engine and they have also announced the first model that will be coming in with the new engine.

Volvo’s new engine is the first triple engine for the automaker. The turbocharged T3 gasoline engine will have an output of 156hp and 195lb ft of torque and will come mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Volvo added that the vehicle will only be offered with the manual transmission first but an eight-speed auto transmission will be added in the future.

Since the engine is also a good match for the PHEV version, there is a high possibility that we might also see a PHEV XC40 model from Volvo in the near future. Sadly, the engine will only be offered in Europe for now. No word on when it will be coming to the US.

Before that happens, the US version of the Volvo XC40 will be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that offers about 187hp.
