T-Mobile: We’ll Give You iPhone 5 But First Empty Your Pockets!

By  |

If you’ve been waiting for the iPhone 5 to get to T-Mobile it probably feels like you’ve been waiting for ever.

T-Mobile has always said it wants the iPhone, but doesn’t want to submit to the demands of Apple. Sprint has caved in, as well as other carriers.

The iPhone 5 is one of the US’ best-sellers, and it’s on every major carrier apart from T-Mobile. Many have said that even when the iPhone 6 is out T-Mobile won’t be offering it – unless they can bag it from Apple without offering Apple’s big subsidies. Sprint didn’t manage to pull this off, so they had to apply Cupertino’s discounts and will have to wait until 2015 to make a profit from the iPhone.

T-Mobile relies a lot on the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the LG Nexus 4, which pull in enough money, so many people wonder why the company doesn’t just take Apple’s subsidies on the chin and get with the iProgram, especially as the carrier had good coverage and reasonable prices. We have to ask if the iPhone is actually wanted at T-Mobile, as iPhone owners can migrate their handsets over to the carrier on a pre-paid plan if they want.

We have some good news! T-Mobile is getting the iPhone 5 after all. The company CEO has said the handset will be coming sometime in the next three or four months. T-Mobile hasn’t exactly caved in to Apple, though. The iPhone 5 will be arriving just as the carrier ends all subsidies….clever! So, you can get the iPhone 5 on T-Mobile, but without the big discount. If you get an iPhone 5 on contract, you can expect to pay $650 rather than $200….a mixed result, eh?
