The Toyota Prius Has Days That Are Numbered

By  |

Today more and more electric vehicles are offering long driving ranges and these can be in excess of 300 miles. This means that the days are numbered for the Toyota Prius as it cannot compete against these vehicles.

Toyota knows this of course and they are doing something about it. They have set up an in-house company so that they can push out an electric vehicle that will be able to compete. Up to now Toyota has led with fuel cell technology along with hybrids but recently said that they are designing an electric vehicle that will launch in 2020.

The in-house company has staff that has come from the four Toyota companies and they are going to be able to operate independently, so they will be able to focus and work fast.

Toyota now has a development and research team that is capable of creating an electric vehicle that should offer up a range of 300 kilometres or more. The electric vehicle will be on the market by 2020 over in Japan. The company will still focus on fuel cell vehicles as of course the Mirai is said to be the ultimate when it comes to eco-cars. At the same time they do know that they need to come up with an electric vehicle that is pure EV.

So soon we could be saying goodbye to the Toyota Prius and this could happen in 2020.
