Skyrim Dragonborn Release Date (PS3): The Bad News

By  |

Just before the holidays last year, Bethesda had an early Christmas gift for PS3 Skyrim fans. They announced that the Skyrim Dragonborn DLC would be available on the PS3 in early 2012.

PS3: Skyrim Dragonborn DLC release date likely still far off

Given that this was the first DLC that was headed to the PS3, the excitement of the announcement was huge. At that time, as we all were relishing the last few weeks of 2012, an announcement of “early 2013” made it sound like we would get the expansion pack in January.

Well that is far from the truth. As we move into the second week of January, Bethesda is still tight lipped on a release date and once again emphasized on the early 2013 release, signaling that we may see the game developer stretch it to the max i.e. even as far as April or May. The bad taste in our mouth came from the recent war of words over on Twitter between a Skyrim PS3 fan and Bethesda spokesman. Here is how it played out:

@DCDeacon when can we be expecting dragonborn on ps3 I’m so tired of this whole mess.

@Kyle_lobcity will get you a date as soon as I can.

@DCDeacon surely we deserve a bit more than that don’t you think? That’s the same answer we were getting for dawnguard. Look how that went..

@kyle_lobcity  no, we said we were still working on Dawnguard. We have committed to Dragonborn release. Just haven’t announced date yet — Pete Hines (@DCDeacon)

The exchange of words ended with the PS3 Skyrim fan saying, “This is just bulls—t”

As we can see from the conversation, Dawnguard for PS3 is clearly on the backburner and it dismisses all rumors of a possibly expansion triple pack where we would see all three DLCs release together so PS3 users can catch up to Xbox 360 with the releases (there are already talks about a Redguard DLC). So we can clearly dismiss that.

Secondly, Bethesda made it clear that when they said early 2013, they meant early 2013. So it is safe to say that January is out and to be honest, February looks very doubtful as they wouldn’t be pissing off PS3 fans over on Twitter even more if we were just weeks away.

The wait for the PS3 Skyrim Dragonborn release date continues.

Dwayne is a jack of all trades. Not only is he an executive editor and collaborates on many stories here at Autoomobile, but he also does artwork and handles the running of the website on a daily basis. We’re not sure what we would do without Dwayne, especially on those days when we have a great scoop and our servers can’t handle the influx of traffic.
