Too Quick For Skyrim Game Sequel, “Adventures In Hammerfell” DLC Next Spring?

By  |

The follow up game from Bethesda in the Skyrim DLCs might not come out until spring of next year. Bethesda trademarked the Redguard name and this led to rumours about the DLC quickly appearing online. Pete Hines went on Twitter to answer questions about when we might see Skyrim Redguard launched.

Of course right now there is nothing to say that the DLC will be called Redguard and the release of it remains a mystery. Bethesda does have history and so we do have some idea of what we might expect. In the past Bethesda have trademarked their titles before then going on to release them, so based on this we could see Redguard come out in spring of this year if it comes after Dragonborn, which came out in December.

At the moment news about Redguard is somewhat sparse but fans have not stopped talking about it online. They have taken to Twitter, where Pete Hines of Bethesda has been responding to rumours, but his answers might not please fans.

Pete said “We haven’t announced one nor said we are doing one.”

Hines then said “@LShankley just the three [DLCs] you know of. No other dlc has been announced for skyrim.”

At the moment he is keeping very quiet about the release of Redguard, but this does not mean that we don’t know anything about the DLC.

Xbox 360: The Official Xbox Magazine revealed rumours about the release of Redguard. They said that Bethesda had said that Redguard was “downloadable computer game software offered via the Internet and wireless devices.” This they said was enough proof.

They went on to say that Redguard would take players to Hammerfell as this is where the Redguards live and they are warlike and proud people. They said ” You may already know from playing Skyrim that the Redguards are the fiercest warriors around. They also hate wizards and most types of magic. Xbox Magazine notes that the warrior tribe is “”reportedly skilled in the use of Destruction magic, the latter aren’t big fans of wizards in general — they regard any combat art that doesn’t deal out punishment directly as dangerously effete.”

Some people say that the release date for Skyrim Redguard is just a rumour. Bethesda may have trademarked the name so they can protect it from anyone else using it.

But if you do look into the history of their release dates they have trademarked Dragonborn, Dawnguard and Hearthfire and then used these as a DLC not long it being trademarked.

Bethesda has not trademarked the remainder of the Elder Scrolls places, names, factions or races.

There are some gamers that have been speculating about when Skyrim Redguard will be released. Xbox Magazine said that the DLC could be set in Dragonstar. This happens to be where the Nords and the Redguards live.

“According to the Elder Scrolls wiki, the city is (or at least, was) a hotbed of political contention, chopped up Berlin-Wall-style between the Nords and Redguards in the aftermath of a long-ceased war. Visit the site today (you’ll need access to a PC version and mod tools) and you’ll find only an oddly featureless, geometry-less stretch of land dotted with pine trees. Going on technological insight that I absolutely don’t have, this would seem a good foundation for an add-on: the less extant landscape there is to wrangle with, surely, the easier new assets are to install.”

“An expansion set partly or entirely within Dragonstar would be an interesting experience, thanks to the aforesaid rocky local politics, but after playing Dragonborn, I suspect the bulk of the pack may once again take place off-shore. Bethesda’s decision to revisit the isle of Solstheim in the most recent expansion was a stroke of genius. Skyrim’s expansions could serve as a means of publicising the game’s wider universe prior to the launch of the continent-spanning Elder Scrolls Online.”

Elder Scrolls fans will know that the DLC that is thought to be coming out links to a previous title in which one of the most difficult of all enemies was the Ebony Warrior, who of course was a Redguard.

So it remains to be seen whether the next DLC to come out will be Redguard or Hammerfell.
