Samsung Galaxy S3 vs S4: What’s New

The Samsung Galaxy S4 will be coming out soon, but could this mean that the current smartphone king, the Samsung Galaxy S3, will be left out in the cold?

Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Samsung Galaxy S4

The Samsung Galaxy S3 has been out for several months and during this time more than 30 million units have been sold. Before the release of the Samsung Galaxy S4 it will have another few months to drag in even more sales, thanks to rumours that the Samsung Galaxy S4 may not arrive before April after being revealed in March at the Unpacked event.

There have been photos leaked of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and if they are true then the device will be made of plastic.

It is thought that it will take on an appearance with more angular lines, much like the Samsung Galaxy S2. This will be so that the screen bezel can be thinner, while the display will be larger, without the need to have a body that is significantly larger.

Samsung revealed the Exynos 5800 chip and this is thought to be the one of the Samsung Galaxy S4. The design has also been changed and the handset should have improved battery life, with top performance.

Four of the processors of the Samsung Galaxy S4 are said to be performance engines which have been clocked at 1.8GHz and have the system architecture of the Cortex A15, while the other four happen to be lower powered Cortex A7 processors with a clock speed of 1.2GHz. These will be used to deal with the daily tasks, and the faster cores will be able to back them up when more power is needed.

Benchmark scores for the Exynos 5800 came in at 27,617 with the Samsung Galaxy S3 scoring around 12,060.

The display of the Samsung Galaxy S4 may be in the form of AMOLED, instead of the IGZO or the 1080p that everyone thought they may see. The same colours and contrast will be there that is seen in the Samsung Galaxy S3.

The size of the display may change from the 4.8 at the moment to 4.99 inches, which may be the largest that Samsung are able to go up to unless they make the handset itself larger. The resolution may be a panel of 1080p instead of 720p. It is thought that it may have 441ppi instead of 326ppi.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 may have the latest version of Android Jelly Bean and it is thought that the device will have TouchWiz 6.0, which should bring new features.

It has also been rumoured that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will come with a 13 megapixel camera and Samsung may offer a larger than normal sensor.

At the moment whether the device will be worth making the upgrade to is unknown. However rumours about the specs do point to it being better than its predecessor. The device should come with some big specs advantages over not just the Samsung Galaxy S3 but also many other rivals brought out in 2013, including the Sony Xperia Z and the Huawei Ascend D2.
