Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Nexus: Which One’s For You?

By  |

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is the flagship handset of Samsung and you have to admit that it does make the Nexus look its age. However it is still in the running in the world of smartphones thanks to it providing a pure Jelly Bean experience, which beats ICS and TouchWiz on the S3. So which of these two great devices should you go out and get?

Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Screen: Both phones have Super AMOLED displays, the Samsung Galaxy S3 has a screen of 4.8 inches with 306ppi and the Nexus has a display of 4.65 inches, with 316ppi. This puts the S3 out in the front.

Power: The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is also behind the S3 for processor speeds as it comes with a TI OMAP 1.2 Cortex CPU, while the S3 has the Snapdragon dual core 1.5GHz with 2GB of RAM. Battery life on the Samsung Galaxy is better thanks to its 2100mAh capacity, compared to the 1750mAh of the Nexus. You should get around 2 more hours of talk time with the S3 than you would with the Nexus. Both of the handsets have Wi-Fi and NFC and the Galaxy S3 also has Bluetooth 4, GLONASS and A-GPS. This puts the S3 in the lead.

Looks: In regards to size, both are very similar with the Samsung Galaxy weighing 133g and the Nexus 135g. Measurements for the S3 are 81.88 cubic cm and for the Nexus, 82.93 cubic cm. The Nexus has a matt textured look to it and the S3 a plastic look. Due to the Nexus having the better design and looks, it wins. However this is a matter of personal opinion.

Camera: The camera on the Samsung Galaxy S3 at the back is 8 megapixels and the Nexus has a 5 megapixel camera. The S3 wins for the back camera as it takes better photos in low light conditions. There is a 1.9 megapixel camera on the front of the S3 and the Nexus comes with a camera of 1.3 megapixels on the front. S3 is the winner.

Software: The Samsung Galaxy Nexus has Jelly Bean and the S3 is still waiting for it to arrive. There will soon be another Nexus device out and another OS and the Nexus will get the update, however whether the S3 will be so lucky remains to be seen. As Jelly Bean comes with numerous additions and features, the winner here has to be the Nexus.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 has sold over 10 million units and remains as popular as ever, while the Nexus is somewhat of an old timer. However it has received a facelift via Jelly Bean and you know that you will get updates on time for the handset. You can get hold of the Nexus for $399 without contract, but you may want to wait to see what comes along with the new Nexus handset and compare it to the S3 first. Rumors suggest that it may be unveiled as early as this month. However if you can’t wait, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is a better bet.
