Galaxy S3 vs DROID RAZR MAXX HD: Moto Has More Ammo

Motorola have introduced the latest handset in the Droid range as the Droid Razr HD Maxx, but is upcoming flagship device powerful enough to take down the reigning Android champ – the Samsung Galaxy S3?

Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD

The two handsets have been styled very differently from each other. The Razr Maxx has the Kevlar back and the Samsung Galaxy S3 looks like plastic. In looks the DROID RAZR Maxx HD wins as it has the more premium look of the two which is expected from flagship device.

Battery is important on a handset and the Samsung Galaxy S3 comes packed with a 2100mAh battery. The battery on the DROID RAZR HD Maxx is 3300mAh and is said to provide up to 21 hours of talking, which completely blows the 11 hours the S3 promises away. Motorola also takes this round.

Both of the devices have a camera of 8 megapixels, which seems to be the standard right now. We’ll leave this as it is since we can’t test out the Motorola DROID RAZR HD MAXX camera just yet.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is somewhat old school with the physical home button, which is not really needed. The Maxx just has on-screen buttons, which is expected from Android handsets running ICS and above. The winner again is the Droid Razr Maxx HD however some people may want a physical home button so this is a matter of preference.

When it comes to the user interface the choice is Blur or TouchWiz. ICS seems to provide a blue glow and looks similar to the atmosphere seen on the Google Nexus handsets with Holo UI and minimal skinning. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has a green tint, which does remind you of Gingerbread. While the Motorola DROID RAZR HD MAXX may look better, the S3 does have some great S features, which makes this category a draw – do you want the gorgeous looks or the extra features?

The HD Maxx is powered by a dual core 1.5GHz processor and so is the Samsung Galaxy S3 (US version). Both of the handsets support LTE and NFC. The Maxx is let down by its storage, with just 32GB internally, while the S3 is available in a range from 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. It also has 1GB of RAM vs 2GB on the S3. The winner here has to be the S3.

Both handsets are very powerful and Jelly Bean is coming out soon. However the Razr HD Maxx has won the majority of the categories in this particular comparison sans the RAM/storage.
