Galaxy S3 vs Nexus 4 vs iPhone 5: S3 Takes The Cake

By  |

The Samsung Galaxy S3 was revealed in May of last year and it was a great success for the company. The Apple iPhone 5 was then revealed and this was followed up by the LG Nexus 4. But which of these handsets takes the crown?

The LG Nexus 4 has the 1.5GHz Qualcomm processor, while the Apple iPhone 5 runs on the dual core at 1.5GHz, while the Samsung Galaxy S3 has the quad core processor from Exynos internationally, while in the US this is the dual core processor. The Apple iPhone 5 is the slowest device out of all three but it does beat the iPhone 4. The LG Nexus 4 comes with 2GB of RAM and this paired with its quad core processors, the Samsung Galaxy S3 also have a quad core, but this is coupled with just 1GB of RAM, while if you want 2GB or RAM then you get dual core.  The LG Nexus 4 is therefore the winner.

If you want a pure Android device then it has to be the LG Nexus 4 as it has Jelly Bean 4.2. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has ICS but this has been updated to Jelly Bean. The Apple iPhone 5 has iOS 6, which is the latest and this is the most streamlined. However if it is customisation that is needed you would have to go for the Android handsets and therefore the choice here is between the LG Nexus 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S3. The Nexus has the benefit as it comes with pure Android.  This has the benefit of getting updates faster. The OS is down to personal choice but you may want to consider the LG Nexus 4 or the Apple iPhone 5.

The LG Nexus comes in either 8GB or 16GB, but it is let down by lack of an SD card for expansion. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has plenty of storage and it also offers SD card support in addition to 16GB, 32GB or 64GB. The Apple iPhone 5 meanwhile is available in the same storage but there is no SD support. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has to be the winner here for storage.

The LG Nexus 4 has a screen of True HD IPS and this is 4.7 inches. There is a resolution of 1146 x 640 and it offers 218ppi. The Apple iPhone 5 has a 4 inch display and this is a resolution of 1136 x 640 with a resolution of 206ppi. The Samsung Galaxy S3 beats the other devices with its display as this is 4.8 inches and has a resolution of 1280 x 720 and 306ppi. The devices all have superb displays and so the best is what you want. IPS screens are typically more realistic when it comes to colours, the Super AMOELD screens can look over saturated and there have been some individuals that say they are hyper real. The LG Nexus 4 has the biggest screen of the IPS ones and so this is the winner.

You could get around 15 hours of use with the LG Nexus 4 and its 2100mAh battery. The Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Apple iPhone 5 both offer around 8 hours.

The LG Nexus 4 is 129 grams and is 133.9mmx68.7mmx9.1mm, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is 112 grams and it measures 136.6×70.6mmx8.6mm and the Apple iPhone 5 comes in as the lightest and therefore it wins, however the LG Nexus 4 isn’t very far behind it.

Anyone who wants NFC has the choice over the LG Nexus 4 or the Samsung Galaxy S3. If you want to have fast data with LTE then you would have to go for the Samsung Galaxy S3 or the Apple iPhone 5. If you need both then it would have to be the Samsung Galaxy S3.

All of the devices have 8 megapixel cameras and offer such as LED flash, autofocus and video recording at 1080p. There is a front camera of 1.3 megapixels on the LG Nexus 4 while the Samsung Galaxy S3 has a camera of 1.9 on the front, the Apple iPhone 5 comes with a 1.2 megapixel front camera. Each of the handsets offers something unique. The LG Nexus 4 has Photo Sphere while the Apple iPhone 5 comes with the best camera if you wish to take photos in low light and the Samsung Galaxy S3 takes video and photos together. As the Apple iPhone 5 has the best BSI sensor it is the winner.

Verdict: Out of all of the devices the Apple iPhone 5 is the easiest of the devices to use and the design of it is something that cannot be beaten. If you want a device that has a low price tag you cannot beat the LG Nexus 4. The downside is that it doesn’t have LTE nor does it have substantial storage. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is an all-rounder and it is packed with all the features expected of a flagship and a price tag that won’t break the bank. So even though it is the oldest handset of the trio, it still comes out the winner.
