Camera shootout: Samsung Galaxy S3 vs iPhone 5 vs HTC One X

GforGames (GFG) recently tested these handset’s camera sensors to find out which was the best in different situations. In regards to background degradation the HTC One X was the odd one out and this was due to the tendency of the device to over-sharpen. However the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 5 did do excellent jobs too.

When it came to colour comparisons the iPhone 5 was able to handle a far wider range of scenarios and it produced colours that looked warmer and which looked more natural pointed out GFG. The Samsung Galaxy S3 delivered results which were similar to the iPhone 5, and the HTC One X took photos that seemed too warm and which gave a yellow hue on certain occasions.

In regards to exposure the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 5 are both about the same, while the HTC One X suffered from under exposure and this meant images that were darker. In dynamic range the iPhone 5 was the winner once again as it produced shots that were great in different light conditions. This was followed equally by the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the HTC One X. It does have to be said that the S3 has a great flash and it offers the best shots, however there isn’t a great deal of difference.

When comparing video quality the Apple handset is the best for recording HD video and it delivers video that is sharp in detail and which comes with colours that are more natural looking. The Samsung Galaxy S3 also does the job well and it reduces the amount of wind noise. The HTC One X continues to drag behind as it doesn’t do well in low light conditions and details are low.

GFG concluded that camera of the iPhone 5 is the best, is easy to use and it offers fast speeds. The HTC One X and the Samsung Galaxy S3 are not too far behind it and they have the bonus of having a lot more controls, such as burst mode. However all in all the most suitable is down to a matter of personal choice.
