Samsung Galaxy S3 Fights iPhone 5: Last Phone Standing Is…

By  |

With the release of the iPhone 5 Apple hope to knock the Samsung Galaxy S3 from the top spot that it has taken. So how does the new iPhone compare alongside the reigning champion, the Galaxy S3? The folks over at NetworkWorld have done a detailed comparison of both devices and have (somewhat) reached a verdict.

Samsung Galaxy S3 vs iPhone 5: winner is… complicated

NW points out that while the iPhone 5 has been updated with LTE, a larger display and faster processor, the upgrade is more in line with an evolution than a revolution of its predecessor. The Samsung Galaxy S3 on the other hand has brought about many new innovations compared to the S2, but not without its fair share of “rough edges”.

The iPhone 5 is not what you would call a must have device so the decision isn’t as simple as when the original iPhone or even the iPhone 4 had launched. Should you already own an iPhone 4 or 4S then you might not want to upgrade suggests NetworkWorld. It is a better buy for those using an even older iPhone or on another platform contemplating giving iOS a shot.

As for the Samsung Galaxy S3, there is no doubt that it is the best Android smartphone you can buy at the moment. Its rough edges have to do with some of its features being a hassle to setup and also those which are great but not universal (limited to working with other S3s only). Its battery life could be better and the screen size may mean it is too large for some hands so you may want to demo a unit first to see how it fits in your hands. If you find it difficult to hold than the more ergonomic iPhone 5 will be a better bet in the long run.

NW concludes that both the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3 are excellent choices for those looking for a new device so you can’t go wrong with either. Check out their full review here.
