As entertaining as the latest row of Samsung Galaxy S3 ads are, the Korean giant just can’t stop mocking the latest iPhone 5. From using Apple’s own catch prases against itself to cleverly leaving out many iPhone 5 features in the comparisons with the Samsung Galaxy S3, you would think that Apple would retaliate. Well they haven’t and the may not need to.

iPhone 5 more powerful than Samsung Galaxy S3 (PCMag benchmark tests)

According to PCMag, the iPhone 5 is set to be the fastest device that has ever been tested. The new device comes with the A6 processor from Apple, which is unique. Today a lot of the devices on the market have either the ARM Cortex A9 or the Qualcomm Krait. However the A6 is something very different as it is an ARM compatible system on a chip which Apple designed from the bottom up.

The tests undertaken on the iPhone 5 include browser benchmarks, Sunspider, Browsermark and Guimark 3 Bitmap. Sunspider tests the javascript, Guimakr HTML5 and Browsermark tests the overall browser. The test was undertaken with the default web browser.

The iPhone 4S was thrown in for good measure and with the Safari web browser, running iOS6 on a dual core A5 800MHz processor, it is up there with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Droid Razr M from Motorola. Both of these handsets run in the Snapdragon S4 1.5GHz processor.

The iPhone 5 however boosts things up to the next level thanks to the fact that it can compete with the S4. The browsermark score is 80% higher and along with this the Sunspider times were quicker. The GUIMark maxes out at 60 frames per second.

GLBenchmark 2.5 is the benchmark for graphics which usually entails walking through game scenes. The performance depends on the handsets graphics power and the resolution of the screen. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has 26% more pixels than that of the iPhone 5, however the iPhone 5 doubles the results of the Galaxy S3, as it is the more powerful handset.

Of course the hardware performance of the handset is merely one piece of the puzzle, but according to the benchmarks the iPhone 5 does happen to live up to the promise that Apple made of it being twice as fast as the iPhone 4S. At the moment it is more than this as it is also the fastest device in the US claims PC Mag and its tests.
