The Samsung Galaxy S3 has been out for some time now and so it is among the older devices on the market. Sadly this means that the device isn’t going to get updated anymore. This means that Android 6.0 Marshmallow isn’t heading to the handset. If you do own the handset you should not worry as developers are offering the Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

Before you do go rushing to install Android 5.0 Lollipop onto your Samsung Galaxy S3 there are some things that you should take into account.

One of the first things that you want to do is make a back-up of the handset and you can use NANDROID to do this. You should also ensure that you have custom recovery installed and you have root access to the handset.

When you have done these you can then install Android 5.0 Lollipop onto your Samsung Galaxy S3 by following our steps below.

– Download the custom ROM file for Android 5.0 Lollipop, one for your phone and one for your desktop.
– Get the arter 97 kernel as well and unzip it.
– Plug in your S3 to your PC via USB cable.
– Remember the Nandroid backup file. Put it in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup.
– Disconnect your S3 from the PC and turn it off.
– Go into recovery mode on for your phone.
– Then select “wipe data factory reset”, “wipe cache partition” and “wipe dalvick cache”.
– Select Backup and Restore option, then choose to restore backup so that the Android 5.0 Lollipop gets installed.
– Flash the arter 97 kernel by selecting “install zip from SD card” and proceed to “choose zip from SD card”.

By now you should have the Samsung Galaxy S3 with Android 5.0 Lollipop installed.
