Galaxy S3 vs Note 2 vs iPhone 5: Size-Wise

Anyone after a smartphone with a large display might want to look at the latest Android offerings like the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and S3. The iPhone 5 might have a 4” display now, but this is still small compared to most Android flagships.

iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3 & Note 2: sizing them up

The Samsung Galaxy S3 has been the best seller of the year, and leads the iPhone 5 right now. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 might knock it off its perch, though, as it’s selling like hot cakes. PopHerald says that retail checks show that three Note 2 handsets are sold for every two S3s.

When considering moving away from an iPhone to the Samsung Galaxy S3 or Samsung Galaxy Note 2 there are of course other things that have to be taken into account besides the size of the display.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Note 2 have a lot in common. The Note 2 has the larger display (5.5”), but the design is otherwise similar. Both have 8MP cameras, but the Note 2 is the latest flagship and so has the best chip.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has the bigger battery and has pre-loaded Jelly Bean. The S3 started off with ICS, but is now almost certainly on JB as well.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has a 1.6GHz quad-core chip and 2GB of RAM. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has a dual-core chip and 2GB of RAM in the US, and 1GB of RAM and quad-cores elsewhere.
So, if you’re after the latest specs’n’techs, then you might prefer the Note 2. You do need to consider the size of the handset, though. If you still want a large display, the smaller frame of the Samsung Galaxy S3 is still a lot bigger than the iPhone 5 and most iPhone users who are now comfortable with the 3.5-inch display may find 4.8-inches more than adequate.
