Anyone wanting to update their Android device will have a dilemma on their hands. Should they go for the Samsung Galaxy S3, which is out now, or should they wait around for the Motorola Droid Razr HD expected on Verizon?

Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Motorola DROID RAZR HD specs comparison

When considering the two handsets the first thing anyone takes into account is the design of the handset. The DROID Razr HD comes with a back that is made of Kevlar and this gives it a great look and provides durability. The Samsung Galaxy S3 on the other hand is made of plastic and so doesn’t look or feel as good in the hand. The Razr HD therefore wins in the exterior design department.

One of the odd things about the Samsung Galaxy S3 is the fact that is has a physical home button and as it comes with Ice Cream Sandwich there is no real need for it. The Motorola Droid Razr HD uses the on-screen keys that come with Android 4.0, the same as on the Nexus.

One of the most important aspects of any device is the battery life. The 2100mAh on the S3 is very impressive, but you do have to take into account that it has to power the large 4.8 inch screen. The Razr HD has a screen of 4.6 inches and a rumored battery of 2500mAh and it should therefore last longer than that of the S3.

When it comes to user interfaces it is a choice of between Blur or TouchWiz. This is merely a matter of personal choice but Blur does look great in videos and with the ICS update it has a bluish look which is great. The Samsung Galaxy S3 on the other hand takes on a greenish look and some have mistaken this for Gingerbread. Nevertheless, TouchWiz packs a ton of features that may overshadow its shortcomings in the looks department.

Cameras are another make or break feature of a smartphone and the Droid Razr HD is thought to have a 13 megapixel one. The Galaxy S3 comes with an 8 megapixel camera, which offers zero shutter lag and a burst mode.

Both are great choices of handsets but you may want to hang on for a little while longer and wait to see the Razr HD when it is released before making a decision. Given that rumors put it for a September launch, it isn’t that far off.
