Samsung brought out the Samsung Galaxy S3 in May of 2012 and immediately it went on to be a popular handset. Apple then announced the Apple iPhone 5 and LG followed suit when they launched the LG Nexus 4. While the Samsung Galaxy S3 happens to be the oldest, it has aged beautifully. So how do the newer devices measure up to it?

The LG Nexus 4 comes with a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm processor, Apple gave the iPhone the 1.5 GHz processor, while Samsung Galaxy S3 is available in quad core internationally and in the USA is available with a dual core processor. As you can see the Apple iPhone happens to be the slowest, but it does beat the speed of its predecessor as it is twice as fast. The LG Nexus four has the quad cores and it also has 2 GB of RAM which beats the Samsung Galaxy S3 as it has the quad core version but only comes with 1 GB of RAM.

If you want pure android then you would have to go for the LG Nexus 4, the Samsung Galaxy S3 comes out of the box with ICS and it has been updated to Jelly Jean, the Apple iPhone comes with iOS 6.1. The LG Nexus four weighs in at 129 g and comes with measurements of 133.9 mm x 68.7 mm x 9.1 mm. The weight of the Samsung Galaxy S3 is 122 g and it is 136.6 mm x 70.6 mm x 8.6 mm. The Apple iPhone happens to be the thinnest and is also the lightest of all of the handsets and so it comes out on top.

Anyone wanting the handset with NFC would have to choose between the LG Nexus 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S3. LTE is needed then you would have to choose between the Apple iPhone 5 or the Samsung Galaxy S3. If you happen to want both you would have no other option to choose the Samsung Galaxy S3.

All handsets have a camera of eight megapixels and this supports video at 1080p along with a LED and autofocus. The LG Nexus 4 also has a camera of 1.2 megapixel, meanwhile the Samsung Galaxy S3 is 1.9 megapixel, the Apple iPhone 5 is ahead with the best BSI sensor and this makes it the winner.

However if money is tight your ideal handset could be the LG Nexus 4. However there are some downsides these include a lack of LTE and storage options.
