By  |

The Samsung Galaxy S3 has always been well received but it is now getting older and as usual, updates are being stopped. It currently runs on Android 4.4 KitKat, which means it isn’t getting Marshmallow. However owners should not worry too much as the device can be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop and this is sweet enough.

Before you rush into going ahead and updating the Samsung Galaxy S3 to Android 5.0 Lollipop you will need to make a backup of your device and you can do this by way of Nandroid. Bear in mind that you have to have custom recovery installed along with having root access enabled.

When you are ready to go ahead and update the Samsung Galaxy S3 to Android 5.0 you can go ahead and check the guide below.

1. Download the custom ROM file for Android 5.0 Lollipop, one for your phone and one for your desktop.

2. Get the arter 97 kernel as well and unzip it.

3. Plug in your S3 to your PC via USB cable.

4. Remember the Nandroid backup file. Put it in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup.

5. Disconnect your S3 from the PC and turn it off.

6. Go into recovery mode on for your phone.

7. Then select “wipe data factory reset”, “wipe cache partition” and “wipe dalvick cache”.

8. Select Backup and Restore option, then choose to restore backup so that the Android 5.0 Lollipop gets installed.

9. Flash the arter 97 kernel by selecting “install zip from SD card” and proceed to “choose zip from SD card”.
