Samsung Galaxy S3: Forget Marshmallow As Android 5.0 Lollipop Is Still Just As Sweet

By  |

While the Samsung Galaxy S3 may be a good device, it is getting on now. The handset runs on an older version of Android and it’s not getting updated to Marshmallow. Thankfully not everyone thinks that the device is over the hill as developers are offering custom ROMs to make sure that the S3 can get updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop, which after all this time remains just as sweet.

However before you do rush into putting Android 5.0 Lollipop onto your Samsung Galaxy S3 you should backup the handset. You will also want to make a backup of the ROM and you can use Nanroid to do this. Also check to make sure that you have root access and you installed custom recovery.

When you have taken the above into account you will then be able to install Android 5.0 Lollipop onto your Samsung Galaxy S3 by following the guide below.

– Download the custom ROM file for Android 5.0 Lollipop, one for your phone and one for your desktop.
– Get the arter 97 kernel as well and unzip it.
– Plug in your S3 to your PC via USB cable.
– Remember the Nandroid backup file. Put it in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup.
– Disconnect your S3 from the PC and turn it off.
– Go into recovery mode on for your phone.
– Then select “wipe data factory reset”, “wipe cache partition” and “wipe dalvick cache”.
– Select Backup and Restore option, then choose to restore backup so that the Android 5.0 Lollipop gets installed.
– Flash the arter 97 kernel by selecting “install zip from SD card” and proceed to “choose zip from SD card”.

Providing everything has gone to plan you should now have Android 5.0 Lollipop installed on your Samsung Galaxy S3.
