The update was released in Spain for the GT-i9305 version. Therefore if you are living in the UK you can still update by KIES and have it installed manually onto your handset.

The update can be installed with ODIN so there is no need to depend on ClockworkMod. Follow the steps given below, but when doing so you do so at your own risk.

Android 4.1.2 XXBME3 Jelly Bean Firmware Details

Version: 4.1.2
Date: June, 2013

Do take note that the XXBME3 firmware together with the instructions are for the Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-i9305 version only. You should check your phone model number first in Settings – About phone.

Before making the update you will need to back-up your settings and data to prevent it from getting lost.

Check that the device is not locked to any carrier and also that the boot loader has been unlocked.

Make sure that you have the USB drivers installed on the computer.

Check that USB debugging has been enabled, go into Settings – Developer Options on Android 4.0 or for Android 2.3 you’ll find this in Settings – About Phone, select build number and then press this seven times to reveal the hidden Developer options in Settings.

Then you need to put a tick in the check box under USB debugging mode in Settings – Developer options.

You’ll need to have about 80% of your battery charged to ensure that your device doesn’t switch itself off.

How to Install Official Android 4.1.2 XXBME3 Jelly Bean OTA on Galaxy S3 GT-I9305

Step 1: Extract the firmware zip file to the desktop to get a .tar.md5 file and a number of other files (optional).

Step 2: Extract Odin zip file to access Odin3 v3.07.exe together with several other files.

Step 3: Switch off the handset and wait for vibration (about 5-6 seconds) to confirm the device has shutdown properly. Now boot the phone into Download Mode by pressing and holding Volume Down, Home and Power button together until you see a construction Android robot icon with a triangle appear on the screen. Then press the Volume Up button to enter Download Mode.

Step 4: Open Odin3 v3.07.exe that you accessed in Step 2 as an Administrator, as Admin privileges are necessary to complete the firmware installation process efficiently.

Step 5: Connect your device to computer via USB cable. When the device is successfully connected, a message saying “Added!” will appear in ODIN and the ID: COM box will become yellow with the corresponding COM port number. If the message doesn’t appear, try changing the port on the computer or reinstalling the phone’s USB drivers.

Step 6: Select the following files from the extracted I9305XXBME3 folder that you accessed in Step 1 by using corresponding checkboxes:

Choose the PDA checkbox, and click the ‘.tar.md5′ file

Tap the Phone checkbox, and select the file called ‘modem’ (ignore this if the file is not found)

Select the CSC checkbox, and click the file called ‘CSC’ (ignore this if the file is not found)

Click the PIT checkbox, and select the ‘.pit’ file (ignore this if the file is not found)

Step 7: In Odin, enable Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options by selecting the checkboxes. The Re-Partition checkbox needs to be selected only if a .pit file was selected in the previous step in ODIN.

Step 8: To stop ROM related errors from happening, check that Step 6 and Step 7 are done correctly. Then hit the START button to start flashing the firmware.

Step 9: After the firmware installation is completed, the device will reboot automatically and shortly after a PASS message with green background will appear in the left-most box right at the top of Odin. It is now safe for you to unplug the USB cable and disconnect the device from the computer.

The Galaxy S3 GT-I9305 will now be using the latest Android 4.1.2 XXBME3 Jelly Bean OTA firmware. Go to Settings > About Phone to verify the firmware that has been installed.

If the Samsung Galaxy S3 gets stuck at boot animation or at the Samsung logo after doing Step 9 then go into recovery mode by pressing and holding the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons together and then select Wipe data/Factory Reset and also Wipe Cache Partition before selecting the reboot system now option. NOTE: To navigate between options and the Power key to choose an option in recovery use the Volume keys. Carrying out the data wipe task will just erase your phone’s internal memory and not the data that is stored on the SD card.
