If you are looking to buy a new handset you may be considering between the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and the Apple iPhone 5. If so then the choice may be hard to make.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 comes with Jelly Bean installed and the Apple iPhone 5 has the latest iOS. Both of the operating systems come with good points and bad points. iOS 6 is a stable OS and it is easy to pick up and learn. Usually devices running iOS 6 come with a resale value that is high. There are more apps in the App Store and these tend to be more polished than the apps in the Google Play Store. What comes as paid apps in the Apple Store are free with ads on Google Play?

Android continually changes and it always improves. Google came out with the Jelly Bean update and there have also been improvements, some of which are amazing. Some users will find it difficult moving on to it, but you can overcome the difficulties. Updates to iOS are very easy, however the OS can be stifling and it does take some beating.

Android is perfect for those who want to be able to customise as it comes with numerous widgets, keyboards and launchers. Android doesn’t rely on iTunes when it comes to syncing. If you have iOS then all you can do is change the ringtone and the wallpaper.

Android updates are slower than updates with Apple iPhone 5 and Apple release them regularly. Older Android handsets do get left out when it comes to updates so that people buy the latest model. You could consider this if you may be thinking of spending around $700 on a new handset.

For specs that Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is in front of the Apple iPhone 5 as the device has a display of 5.5 inches and it has twice the speed when it comes to processing as it has twice the amount of RAM as the Apple iPhone 5. The handset has a battery of 3100mAh and again this is twice that of the Apple iPhone 5. The handset is larger and it has the S Pen stylus. What does let it down is the fact that it has a plastic body and the Apple iPhone 5 outclasses it.

You could get up to 35 hours talk time from the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 if you are talking on 2G and if you are on 3G this will drop to around 16 hours. The device also supports SD card along with NFC and the device comes with a battery that you can take out. The Apple iPhone 5 misses out on all of this.

You do get decent storage options with both of the handsets, however the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 does win as it also has support for SD card. Both devices have 8 megapixel cameras and the Apple iPhone 5 has a camera of 1.3 megapixels on the front, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has a camera of 1.9 megapixels. Both of the devices have LTE along with HSPA+.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has points for the storage and SD card option, its processor, the screen and the battery life. The Apple iPhone 5 comes out on top for the design, the price tag and the camera. This is the best handset if you wish to take photos in low light conditions.

Both of the handsets are available with all carriers in the US and the Apple iPhone 5 is available for $199 on a two year contract. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is priced at $299 on a two year contract. T-Mobile is to be offering the Apple iPhone 5 much later in the year, however you will not be able to get it on contract and you will have to pay out the full price.
