Pedestrian Detection Systems Only Looking Out For Pedestrian In The Day

Most new models come in fitted with tons of new tech and features with the pedestrian detection tech becoming one of the more common techs we are seeing now. As the name of the tech would suggest, it is here to help drivers detect pedestrians on the road and warn them so that they do not run into them.

Well, according to AAA, the system might not be as effective as we believe specially at night. AAA tested a few models including the 2019 Toyota Camry, 2019 Tesla Model 3, 2019 Honda Accord and 2019 Chevrolet Malibu and found that the system does not actually see better than the driver when the sun goes down.

It was added that 75% of pedestrian fatalities happen at night in the US. Of course, the automakers did warn their customers in the owner’s manual but most people probably won’t ever read about it and believe that it is as effective at night.

AAA concluded that even with the tech, the motorist needs to be aware of their surrounding at all times and do not rely only on these techs to warn them.
