At this moment in time the Samsung Galaxy S3 remains the top selling device so far this year. However this may change as Apple has released the iPhone 5 with many changes and pre-orders have been a massive success. Nokia meanwhile have announced their Lumia 920 which is a Windows Phone 8 handset with some serious hardware. So how will it match up to the current king of the smartphone word, the Samsung Galaxy S3? Let’s find out.

Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Nokia Lumia 920

The Samsung Galaxy S3 has a Super AMOLED display of 4.8 inches and 1280 x 720 resolution. It is powered by the Exynos chip 1.4Ghz quad core and it has 2GB of RAM. Storage wise it is offered in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB and it supports external storage by way of a microSD card. The 8 megapixel camera is superb and takes video at 1080p with the ability for simultaneous video and picture capture. There is also a front camera of 1.9 megapixels and the large 2,100mAh battery will last for around 12 hours talking on the 3G network. The device runs Android 4.0 at the moment and there will be a Jelly Bean update very soon.

The Nokia Lumia 920 on the other hand has the 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 dual core and the screen size is 4.5 inches with 1280 x 768 resolution. The device has 32GB of storage and 1GB of RAM and it also has a great 8.7 megapixel camera which is PureView. It comes with a 1.2 megapixel front camera and it runs on the latest Windows Phone 8 OS. It is thought that the handset will be available in November in a multitude of color options.

The screen of the Nokia Lumia 920 with PureMotion HD+ should be the better of the two when it comes to HD resolution. The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with more RAM and the storage options are better and of course there is support for SD card. The Lumia 920 has wireless charging by way of QI and it wins when it comes to looks as well. The Lumia 920 also wins for the PureView camera which won over the Samsung Galaxy S3 in specific low light tests.

Both of the devices have pros and cons and which is best for you may come down to whether you want a phone on Android or Windows. Whether the Lumia 920 will be able to match the 20+ million units sold to date remains to be seen. However one thing is for sure is that at the moment the Lumia 920 is the best Windows device that has been made, up until now. Both devices are on the bleeding edge of technology and you can’t go wrong with either and this time.
