Samsung have pinned their hopes of continuing with the success of the Galaxy S3, on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Meanwhile Nokia have put their hopes on the Lumia 920 to get them back into the world of smartphones again.

Nokia may be entering into the race very late and this could cost them. This could be their last fling at getting back into the market.

The Note 2 runs on Android, while Nokia has chosen Windows Phone 8 for their Lumia 920. But how do the two handsets compare to each other?

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 vs Nokia Lumia 920

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is the larger of the two devices at 180 grams in weight and 151.1×80.5×9.4mm, the Nokia Lumia 920 comes in at 185 grams and is 130.3×70.8×10.7mm. The Lumia 920 therefore is heavier and chunkier than the Note 2.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 comes in a choice of three colours. You can get it is pebble blue, marble white or titanium grey. The device looks sleek, but some people have said that it does look cheap thanks to it having a plastic body. The handset is very easy to use and this has made it very popular. The Note 2 comes with the large HD display and it has the S Pen.

The Nokia Lumia 920 meanwhile is offered in many different bright colours and these do seem to give the handset a fragile look; however the device is a lot stronger than it looks and it comes with a build that is sturdy.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is sleek, but the sturdiness of the Nokia Lumia 920 makes the device stand out and it does have a premium feel and look to it.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has the 5.5 inch Super AMOLED display with resolution of 1280 x 720 and 267ppi. The display has protection from Gorilla Glass 2.

The Nokia Lumia 920 has a display of PureMotion HD+ IPS LCD and it is 4.5 inches with 332ppi and 1280 x 768 resolution. It has ClearBlack tech and the colours that are dark are boosted, while at the same time glare has been reduced. This means that the display is easy to read in sunlight and it is HD quality. The Note 2 has the larger display but it is the Lumia 920 that wins thanks to it having ppi that is higher and colours which are more vibrant and a touch display that is better.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 comes out on top when it comes down to storage as you can get it in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. The handset comes with 2GB of RAM and there is support for SD card up to another 64GB.

When it comes to the Nokia Lumia 920 it has 32GB; however there is no SD card support for boosting storage.

The Note 2 has a quad core processor of 1.6GHz, which is one of the best for multi-tasking and it is powerful and the device runs smooth. Anyone who likes to play games on their handset will love the device.

The Lumia 920 comes with the Snapdragon 1.5GHz dual core processor. If you look at the handsets on paper then the Note 2 and its processor comes out on top. However in real life the processor of the Nexus device does run apps smoothly on Windows Phone 8.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has some great features thanks to Jelly Bean, which is the best OS to date and being features such as Project Butter, which help apps to run very smoothly when watching movies or playing games.

The Nokia Lumia 920 has Windows Phone 8 and this is newer than Android. It has live tiles and the device is superb for social networking. Right now it cannot be compared to Android as the OS does have some way to go in beating Android and the apps and features.

Camera wise the Nokia Lumia 920 is the winner with the PureView 8.7 megapixel camera which provides photos which are very bright and which have deep contrast, with the contrast being rich, PureView is also superb in low light.

The camera on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is 8 megapixels and this can record 1080p video. The camera has support for geo tagging, face and smile detection, touch focus and auto focus.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is a huge improvement over the original Note as it has the better processor and S Pen has been given a facelift. The device comes with the latest Android OS and the processor is one of the fastest on the market today.

The Nokia Lumia 920 meanwhile has the best camera and the display is better than many on the market at the moment. However when you compare it with the Note 2, the Note 2 takes more points, which means that overall it is the winner.
