Lumia 920 vs iPhone 5: Nokia Is The “New iPhone”

By  |

Nokia have a lot riding on the Nokia Lumia 920. It is hoped that the device will resurrect the declining sales of Nokia, while Microsoft are hoping that the device will launch Windows Phone 8 and it will become popular. With this in mind the Nokia Lumia 920 is under a lot of pressure. Both companies need the Nokia Lumia 920 to become the “next Apple iPhone”. But can the Nokia Lumia 920 beat the Apple iPhone 5?

Nokia Lumia 920 vs iPhone 5

The focus up to now has been on the battle between the Apple iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3. The Nokia Lumia 920 is on AT&T and it has a large screen, UI that is easy to use and the design and camera are stunning. So let’s see where it stands against the iPhone 5.

The Nokia Lumia 920 comes with a display which offer 332ppi and which is 4.5 inches and has a resolution of 1280 x 768. The Apple iPhone 5 meanwhile comes with 326ppi and a 4 inch display which offers 1136 x 640 resolution. The Nokia Lumia 920 is the winner here thanks to it having the display that is larger, ppi that is higher and a display that you can use with gloves.

The back camera on the Nokia Lumia 920 is 8.7 megapixel and the front is a 1.3 megapixel. The camera has support for dual LED flash, PureView and it has Carl Zeiss optics. The Apple iPhone 5 meanwhile has a camera of 8 megapixel and a front one of 1.2 megapixel. Its camera has autofocus, LED flash, FaceTime, face detection, geo-tagging and panoramic options. The back camera of the Nokia Lumia 920 beats the one of the Apple iPhone 5 in low light and it happens to be one of the best cameras ever to have been seen so far.

The Apple iPhone 5 is the winner in regards to storage as it comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, while the Nokia Lumia 920 is only in 32GB.

Both of the devices support LTE, 2G and 3G, however the Nokia Lumia 920 also supports wireless charging, NFC and a generic microUSB cable. The Apple iPhone 5 on the other hand only has the Lightning cable.

The Nokia Lumia 920 has Windows Phone 8, while the Apple iPhone has iOS 6. Apple is the winner with the App Store. However Windows Phone 8 does look great and it is easier to learn than iOS. The Nokia Lumia 920 has a host of apps that are exclusive to Nokia, including Lens Caps and Nokia Drive. These cannot beat the more than 700,000 apps that you can get with the App Store for the Apple iPhone 5 though so Windows Market Place will therefore have some catching up to do.

You can get the Nokia Lumia 920 in red, black, grey, white and yellow, while you have the choice of either black or white with the Apple iPhone 5. However this isn’t such a huge win for the Lumia, its dimensions do look chunkier than the Apple iPhone 5. Both of the handsets are superb and so this means that it is a draw.

The Nokia Lumia 920 32GB comes with a price tag of $99.99 with a contract of two years and the Apple iPhone 5 will cost $299 for the 32GB version. Thanks to it having a price tag that is much lower, the Nokia Lumia 920 is the winner.

The Nokia Lumia 920 took five rounds here compared to the Apple iPhone 5, which took two. Therefore it is the winner overall, on paper at least. Bear in mind that the device is only available on AT&T, while the Apple iPhone 5 is available with all carriers in the US, apart from T-Mobile. The Nokia Lumia 920 cannot expect to match the reputation of the Apple iPhone at the moment. However it is a great Windows Phone 8 device. Bear in mind that when Apple released their first iPhone it came with just a few apps in the App Store, and it was only with AT&T. But it excelled thanks to its easy OS, great camera and touchscreen. The Nokia Lumia 920 has gotten off to the same start and they seem to be on the same path as the first iPhone was.

Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, PC, iPhone and Android games keep Berke busy at work all day. Honestly though we’re not sure why we’re paying him as it should be the other way around.
