Nexus 5X Owners Get Android 7.1 Nougat Unofficially

By  |

Google Nexus 5X owners didn’t have to wait for the Android 7.1 Nougat to arrive by official means as they got it by way of Cyanogen when they launched a custom ROM for the device.

Cyanogen offered the CM14.1 ROM for the Nexus 5X to bring it up to date. However the ROM is a nightly build so there may be some issues with it and you may find that some of the features are not working as they should.

If you want to install Android 7.1 Nougat CM14.1 onto your handset you need to have 80% battery left and ensure that your handset is rooted. You also need debugging enabled and you will need to install TWRP or CWM.

You should download the CM14.1 ROM and GApps onto the computer and you can then connect the device to copy the files to the SDcard. Once you have done this turn the device off and then disconnect it.

Go into recovery by holding the power, volume up and volume down and when you release it you will see Fastboot or Bootloader. Use the volume keys for navigating and the power button for choosing and pick Bootloader – Recovery.

Do a Nandroid backup and head into the main menu and then wipe data. Choose wipe data/factory reset and you can then wipe the cache and delvik cache wipe.

Install the zip file that you copied to the SDcard and this will install CM14.1 Android7.1 Nougat. You should then do the same with the GApps you copied over and then reboot the Nexus 5X.
