By  |

Google Nexus 5X owners got an unexpected treat when they received an unofficial invitation to Android 7.1 Nougat. CyanogenMod are the people behind the ROM and it gives the Nexus device the latest version of Nougat.

CM14.1 ROM was launched for owners of the Nexus 5X to download and install but as this is a nightly build there may be some things that are not working as they should be.

If you want to go ahead and install Android 7.1 Nougat onto your device there are some things that you might want to bear in mind before installing. You do need to have a rooted handset and you should have USB debugging enabled. You will also need CWM or TWRP installed.

Download the CM14.1 ROM onto your computer along with Google Apps and then attach the device and go into recovery. This is down by holding down the Volume Up, down and the power button at the same time. Let go of them and you will see FastBoot or Bootloader and you can then use the volume keys to do the navigating and power button for choosing.

Make a Nandroid backup and then go into the main menu and choose wipe data and wipe data/factory reset. You can then head back to wipe cache and wipe delvik cache.

Go to the SD card and find the ROM you put onto the card and then install it. When you have done that you can copy the process to install GApps. Reboot the device and you will now have Android Nougat 7.1 on your Nexus 5X.
