RAZR MAXX HD & iPhone 5: More Alike Than You’d Think

By  |

The iPhone 5 is hugely popular, but it does have rivals. One of these is the upcoming Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX HD that is building hype up at an accelerated rate thanks to its October 18 release date. It looks amazing, and has equally amazing software and hardware, so let’s have a scrap!

iPhone 5 vs Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD

Superficially, the phones look so similar that you could be fooled into thinking they’re made under the same philosophy and the same target market.

The main difference is the operating systems. The iPhone 5 is on iOS 6 and the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX HD has Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Blur has been stripped quite a lot, and looks like the stock Android that comes with the Holo UI. You’re looking at two almost utilitarian interfaces with polished looks and no heavy skinning.

The Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX HD has a huge 4.7” Super AMOLED display, and the iPhone 5 has a 4” Retina screen. Both these phones have HD resolution and are around a half inch bigger than their predecessors. The MAXX HD AMOLED screen does deep blacks and vibrant colours, but these look artificial compared to the whites on the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5 screen is brighter than that MAXX, but the MAXX’s size makes up for this too.

The Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX HD takes battery life as seriously as the iPhone. It has a 3,300mAh battery, giving up to 21 hours of talk time. The iPhone 5 gives around nine hours of talk time due to its 1,400mAh battery. The MAXX HD also has external storage capacity, but the iPhone 5 doesn’t.

Both handsets ooze class, but even the iPhone 5 can’t compete with that Kevlar backing on the MAXX HD. Both phones have dual-core chips, 1GB of RAM and 8MP cameras.

The MAXX HD has a lot in common with the iPhone 5 – HD resolution, 8MP cameras, powerful hardware, spare UI, high-end looks, unique choice of exterior materials, slimness and great battery life is a priority. It’ll come down to personal choice in the end, between iOS 6 and ICS.
