Nexus 4 Production Ceases, LG Looking At Nexus 5 Already [REPORT]

When the LG Nexus 4 came out last year it drew rave reviews from all the critics, along with consumers. However the device was too popular and it was always sold out on Google Play Store. A new report has come to light and this could tell us why this is.

LG Nexus 4 production ceases, working on LG Nexus 5? (IB Times)

There is a rumour going around that LG have stopped the production of the LG Nexus 4 and this would explain why you cannot get it. But why would LG want to cease its production and stop making a device that is popular? The answer to this question could have been let out during the CES press conference of LG.

The IBTimes UK have said that James Fisher, who is the SVP of LG has said that the LG Nexus 4 would be just the first of many Nexus handsets that they company were working on with Google, which would be revealed in February at the MWC. It could be that one of these is set to replace the LG Nexus 4.

Of course right now this is nothing more than just a rumour. However it is a very interesting one. But why might LG want to replace the LG Nexus 4 with a brand new device? Perhaps Google believes that the line-up of Nexus handsets needs to be refreshed as the LG Nexus 4 was a commercial and critical success. There doesn’t seem to be problems with the hardware and so it wouldn’t make sense to replace the device with something that is only a little bit better.

If the handset was replaced, what might it look like? There have been rumours going around that the device could have a quad core processor of 2 GHz, along with the latest version of Android, which would be Key Lime Pie perhaps. However if this were true then we wouldn’t see the handset until after Google IO, which is set to occur in May.

So could LG already have started production of an LG Nexus 5 for release sometime in Q1 or Q2 2013? If so then it would be extremely fast.
