Lane Departure Warning: To Keep It On Or Off?

By  |

Most vehicles will come with a long list of safety features now including the increasingly common Lane Departure Warning system which could be one of the most systems to have right now.

According to IIHS, the Lane Departure Warning system is really saving lives. The report claims that the system was able to reduce single vehicle, head-on crashes, and sideswipe accident by 18% and lower the rate of injuries by 24%. They also added that fatal crash was reduced by 86% when the vehicle is fitted with the Lane Departure Warning.

Other safety systems like the blind spot detection system managed to reduce crashes by 14% and injuries by 23% while automatic braking managed to reduce the crash rate by half.

Rearview cameras, on the other hand, managed to prevent 1 out of 6 crashes. These new systems actually reduce the rate of crashes and injuries on the road so you might want to think twice before turning them off.
