Jeep Renegade To Get Plug-In Hybrid Soon?

With tougher emissions rules set, it is up to the automakers to adapt and make sure they meet new regulations. For Jeep, it was about giving the Jeep Renegade a plug-in hybrid model.

According to Jeep, the next five years will be about becoming fully compliant with emission regulations across the regions as well as remove diesel engines from the European marker by 2021.

As for the Jeep Renegade, the vehicle will be getting its plug-in hybrid engine by 2020 which will be produced at the Melfi plant in southern Italy, the same plant that is also working on the combustion engine for Jeep Renegade and the Fiat 500X crossover model. Jeep will be spending about 200million euros on the new engine.

FCA plans to offer 12 electric propulsion system by 2022. These will include battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids as well as full hybrids. About 30 models will benefit from these new electric propulsion systems.
