iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S3: Another Way To Look At It

By  |

We’ve already seen the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3 put through numerous comparisons that basically pit their specs against one another. Because both are flagship devices, they are practically evenly matched on paper. If you’re still on the fence about getting the Samsung Galaxy S3 or iPhone 5, here are two more tests.

iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S3: Drop test & battery life test

The iPhone 5 has taken a battering over issues owners have reported since the release of the device. Some have even gone to the extreme and tested the iPhone in drop tests against the Samsung Galaxy S3 to see which is truly the best smartphone. iPhones in the past have failed in drop tests and everyone expected the same from the iPhone 5, however it proved that the aluminium casing was actually stronger than it looks and protected the handset when dropped from 5 feet. Meanwhile the Samsung Galaxy S3 fell to pieces and the corners cracked.

Following this test, another was undertaken and this time it involved the battery life of the two devices. WHICH magazine carried out this test on the Samsung Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5, along with other handsets. They found that the Samsung Galaxy S3 lasted 359 minutes when web browsing and the Sony Xperia S lasted 276 minutes; the HTC One X came in third. The iPhone 4S lasted longer than the iPhone 5 at 208 minutes and the iPhone 5 came in in 5th place by lasting 200 minutes only. The Razr Maxx didn’t take part as it would have blown the others clean out of the water.

So if you have the iPhone 4S, you might want to think twice before you upgrade to the iPhone 5, if you want the better battery life. The reason the iPhone 5 cannot beat the 4S is that the battery hasn’t been improved that much over the 1440mAh of the 4S, and the iPhone 5 has the larger display and better processor. Apple of course traded a bigger battery so that the new iPhone 5 could be thin and light. The Samsung Galaxy S3 on the other hand comes with a battery of 2100mAh.
