The Samsung Galaxy S3 was released in May last year and the handset sold very well. Apple then revealed the Apple iPhone 5 and LG brought out the LG Nexus 4. But can these two newer devices take on the Samsung Galaxy S3?

The LG Nexus 4 comes with the 1.5 GHz Qualcomm processor, the Apple iPhone 5 has the dual core 1.2 Ghz and the Samsung Galaxy S3 has the dual core in the US and the quad core internationally. The Apple iPhone 5 happens to be the slowest of the handsets, but then it does beat the Apple iPhone 4S thanks to it coming with twice the speed. The LG Nexus 4 has the quad core but it has 2GB of RAM, if you get the Samsung Galaxy S3 quad core you do have to manage with 1GB, and if you want 2GB then you only get dual cores. This means that the LG Nexus 4 comes out on top.

Jelly Bean 4.2 is found on the LG Nexus 4, the Samsung Galaxy S3 has ICS out of the box, while it can be updated with Jelly Bean 4.1. The Apple iPhone 5 meanwhile has iOS 6. This is also the friendliest of the operating systems and is easy to use. If you want to customise your device then you should look at Android. Both the LG Nexus 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S3 has Android. However the LG Nexus 4 would get updates faster than the Samsung Galaxy S3. This means that it comes down to the choice of either the LG Nexus 4 or the Apple iPhone 5.

The LG Nexus 4 is available in 8GB or 16GB, but it does lack support for SD card. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB and you can add on another 64GB through SD card. This means that the winner here has to be the Samsung Galaxy S3.

The display of the LG Nexus 4 is 4.7 inches, which is True HD IPS. It has a resolution of 1280 x 768 along with 318 ppi. The Apple iPhone 5 comes with a display of 4 inches and this is IPS with 306 ppi. The biggest screen is to be found on the Samsung Galaxy S3 and this is 4.8 inches, with resolution of 1280 x 720. While all of the screens come with good and bad points, the most suitable is down to the individual. IPS screen may not offer realistic colours, however the Super AMOLED screen can have an over saturated look. Thanks to the LG Nexus 4 having the biggest of the IPS screens, it comes out as the winner.

You may get around 15 hours talking with the 2100mAh battery of the LG Nexus 4. The Apple iPhone 5 along with the Samsung Galaxy S3 both offer around 8 hours. In research AnandTech said that the Apple iPhone 5 was the winner for battery, this was then followed closely by the Samsung Galaxy S3, then the LG Nexus 4.

The LG Nexus is 129 grams in weight and measures 133.9 mm x 68.7 mm x 9.1 mm. the Samsung Galaxy S3 comes in at 135 grams and is 136.6×70.6 mm x 8.6 mm, while the iPhone is thinner and lighter than these two devices and so it wins. It also has great looks, however the LG Nexus 4 is not far behind it.

If you want to enjoy NFC on the handset then you do have choose either the Samsung Galaxy S3 or the LG Nexus 4. If LTE is more to your liking then it would be a choice between the Samsung Galaxy S3 or the Apple iPhone 5. If you want NFC and LTE you will have to choose the Samsung Galaxy S3.

The LG Nexus offers a camera of 8 megapixels and this comes with video recording at 1080p and has autofocus. The handset also offers a camera on the front which is 1.3 megapixels. The Samsung Galaxy S3 also has a camera of 8 megapixels which supports LED flash and autofocus. The handset also has a camera on the front of 1.9 megapixels. The Apple iPhone 5 comes with a camera of 8 megapixels and there is also one of 1.2 megapixels on the front. Each of the cameras has their good and bad points and have something that stands out as being unique. The LG Nexus 4 has the Photo Sphere feature, while the Samsung Galaxy S3 is able to capture video and take photos at the same time. The winner here has to be the Apple iPhone 5 thanks to the fact that is offers the best BSI sensor.

The Apple iPhone 5 is perhaps the easiest of all the handsets to use thanks to the simplicity of iOS 6 and the device has the best exterior design. The LG Nexus 4 on the other hand is packed with great hardware and has a great price tag; however there are some things that let it down, such as lack of LTE and smaller storage. If you want a device that is an all-rounder, then you would have to go for the Samsung Galaxy S3, thanks to the fact that it has a good balance of price and features expected of a flagship phone.
