iPhone 5 vs Nokia Lumia 920: Power & Looks A Lethal Package

By  |

The Nokia Lumia 920 is the best WP 8 phone out there, and it has the goods to challenge the iPhone 5. It comes in many colours, not just black and white, and its polycarbonate and glass body is really beautiful – and strong. The iPhone 5 beats the Lumia 920 in pocketablity, though. It’s just 3.95oz, and is 4.87×2.31×0.30”. The Nokia Lumia 920 is 6.52oz and is 5.12×2.78×0.42”.

The iPhone 5 display is a 4”, 1,136x640p, and the Lumia 920 4.5” display has a 1,280x720p resolution. This blows the iPhone 5 off the stage in looks and tech. The display is bigger, more responsive and even recognizes fingernails and gloves.

The new iPhone 5 chip – the A6 – is said to be twice as fast as the iPhone 4S. However, the Nokia Lumia 920 has a 1.5GHz dual-core like the Samsung Galaxy S3, and this is fast as well. Recent teardowns revealed that the iPhone 5 is packing a 1.03GHz dual-core chip that can go upwards to 1.3GHz when needed.

The iPhone 5 camera is 8MP, and is known to do well in low light compared to the iPhone 4S, the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the HTC One X. It’s 40% faster to snap images, too. The front camera can take 720p videos. The Nokia Lumia 920 on the other hands has an 8.7MP PureView rear camera with lots of features like optical image stabilisation. The front camera, at 1.3MP, can also take 720p vids. The Lumia 920 camera blows all other cameras way in low light conditions, including the iPhone 5 as proved by test shots done by TheVerge recently.

The phones have the usual connections, but the iPhone 5 comes in 16, 32 and 64GB options whereas the Nokia Lumia 920 comes in 32GB only. The iPhone 5 has Bluetooth 4 and the Lumia 920 has 3.1.

The iPhone 5 can give you eight hours of talk time, and Nokia Lumia 920 claims ten hours.

These are two brilliant phones, and the decision will ultimately come down to whether you want WP8 or iOS 6. iOS is more popular – for now – and the Apple App Store is better stocked than Windows Marketplace – for now. Most of the popular apps are already on Windows Marketplace, with more to follow. It is also hard to resist the Nokia Lumia 920 looks, display and camera… but without sufficient content in the Marketplace it may be handicapped somewhat for now.

Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, PC, iPhone and Android games keep Berke busy at work all day. Honestly though we’re not sure why we’re paying him as it should be the other way around.
