iPhone 5 vs Nexus 4 vs Galaxy S3: Standing The Test Of Time

By  |

Samsung revealed the Samsung Galaxy S3 in May of last year and it went straight to the top of the best-sellers list. Apple then revealed the Apple iPhone 5 and this was followed on by the LG Nexus 4. As you can see the Samsung Galaxy S3 happens to be the oldest of these three devices, but which is the best out of the three?

The LG Nexus 4 has the Qualcomm 1.5GHz processor, while the Apple iPhone 5 as the 1.5GHz A6 processor and the Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with the quad core processor internationally, while over in the US it comes with dual cores. The slowest handset is the Apple iPhone 5, but on saying this it has twice the speed of the iPhone 4S. The LG Nexus has 2GB of RAM and it does have quad core processors and this does mean that it is better than the Samsung Galaxy S3, as the handset comes with quad cores; however it only has 1GB of RAM. If you want 2GB of RAM there is only 1GB of RAM. This means that the LG Nexus 4 comes across as the winner.

If you are looking for a phone that has Android then the LG Nexus 4 is very hard to beat thanks to it coming with Jelly Bean. The Samsung Galaxy S3 was released with ICS; however it has been updated to Jelly Bean. The Apple iPhone 5 comes with iOS6.1. Should you want to customise your device then you would be better with one of the Android handsets. On the other hand iOS is the most stable and it is streamlined. The LG Nexus 4 perhaps will be updated faster and with this in mind you could choose between the LG Nexus 4 and the Apple iPhone 5.

The LG Nexus 4 comes in 8GB and 16GB but the device is let down by the fact that it doesn’t have support for SD card. The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with a lot of storage as you can get it in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB and there is SD card support for up to another 64GB. The Apple iPhone 5 is offered in the same storage choices but there is no support for SD card. The winner here is the Samsung Galaxy S3.

The LG Nexus 4 has a display of 4.7 inches and this is 1146 x 640 with 218ppi. The Apple iPhone 5 has a display of 4 inches and 306ppi and resolution of 1136 x 640. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has a Super AMOLED display of 4.8 inches. All displays are great but the IPS do offer the more realistic colours and the Super AMOLED does look over saturated to some people. As the LG Nexus 4 offers the larger of the IPS screens it is the winner.

You may get around 15 hours of use from the LG Nexus 4 as the battery is 2100mAh. The Apple iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3 will both offer around 8 hours.

The LG Nexus 4 is comes in at 129 grams and is 133.9mmx68.7mmx9.1mm, while the Samsung Galaxy S3 is 122 grams and comes in at 136.6×70.6mmx8.6mm, the Apple iPhone 5 comes in as the lightest and the smallest so it wins.

If you happen to need NFC you can choose between the LG Nexus 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S3 but if you want LTE then you would have to choose between the Apple iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3. If you have a need for both then you will have no choice as it has to be the Samsung Galaxy S3.

All handsets have 8 megapixel cameras on the rear and they come with support for video at 1080p, autofocus and LED flash. The LG Nexus 4 also have a camera of 1.2 megapixels, the Samsung Galaxy S3 has one of 1.9 megapixels and the Apple iPhone 5 comes with one of the best BSI sensors and this means it wins.

If you are looking for a handset that is very easy to use it would have to be the Apple iPhone 5 and it also has superb looks. If you are on a tight budget then you might consider the LG Nexus 4 and it has good hardware but it lacks storage and LTE. If you want something that is a great all-rounder then it would have to be the Samsung Galaxy S3 as it has lots of features and the price tag is good. While it may be the oldest device it is the winner.
