iPhone 5 vs HTC One X: Beauty & Brains A Killer Combo

By  |

The iPhone 5 was announced yesterday and with it all the rumored specs made official (apart from NFC that is). In addition to killer hardware, it has some striking looks as well.

Its biggest rivals will no doubt be Android and in particular the equally powerful Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X. While the S3 has trumped the HTC One X in most fronts, it fails in one area – the looks department. Now Apple’s iPhone 5 just so happens to do the same with the Samsung Galaxy S3. This brings us to the next question… so how does the HTC One X and iPhone 5 compare against each other given they both have beauty and brains?

iPhone 5 vs HTC One X

The iPhone 5 design is the winner in our opinion as Apple has always remained true to form and the new device looks superb and high end. The HTC One X on the other hand comes with a polycarbonate unibody and is chunkier than the sleek iPhone 5.

The display of the HTC One X offers some of the best viewing angles on a smartphone with a screen of 4.7 inches. The iPhone 5 comes with a Retina display of 4 inches and Apple claim that it offers a lifelike picture and the ratio is 16:9. Both offer crisp pictures and good viewing angles. However the HTC One X is noticeably larger and hence better for viewing media and browsing.

The iPhone 5 comes with iOS6 and thanks to the larger screen there are more icons on the screen and the interface of course is a pleasure to use. The HTC One X has Android with HTC Sense but which one is the best depends on whether you favor Android or iOS.

The camera on the HTC One X is 8 megapixels while the one on the new iPhone 5 is a iSight camera that take stunning photos and also record 1080p video. In the test shots that surfaced on the web, we saw that the iPhone 5 camera took equivalently good pictures as the iPhone 4S in normal shooting conditions. Going with that little information that we have, the HTC One X also matches the 4S camera so at this time we will conclude that both the HTC One X and iPhone 5 cameras are almost on par.

The iPhone 5 comes in 16GB, 32GB or 64GB with no support for SD card while the One X is in 32GB and is also not expandable. Both the HTC One X and the iPhone 5 have support for 4G LTE.

The battery of the HTC One X is 1800mAh and offers great performance while the battery of the iPhone 5 provides around 10 hours of video or 8 hours of talk time and web browsing (higher than those figures of the One X).

The iPhone 5 is without doubt the best iPhone to date. It fits in the pocket easy and is light. The HTC One X has a good design and the camera is one of the best we’ve seen on an Android device. So it all comes down to whether you prefer iOS or Android as on the hardware front they are equals.

Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, PC, iPhone and Android games keep Berke busy at work all day. Honestly though we’re not sure why we’re paying him as it should be the other way around.
