iPhone 5 iOS 6 untethered jailbreak: 2 solutions confirmed already

Tthere has been some news on the jailbreaking front in the form of the jailbreak for the iPhone 4S with iOS 6 by way of a video showing Cydia running on the phone. This could mean that the developers could very well have found the crack for iOS 6 and the iPhone 5 could be the next device to get the jailbreak.

Developer @Mr_DunH1ll posted the video on Twitter showing that the jailbreak for iOS 6 works with the iPhone 4S. However while the jailbreak is said to be working there are some issues that do have to be worked out before its public release. It is thought that issues relate to the security which Apple has enhanced in iOS 6.

The video seems to show an iPhone 4S running iOS 6 with Cydia on it, meaning that the device has been jailbroken. The hacker who released the video is said to be a member of the ARB Dev Team for OSX and iOS 6. This is not a well-known team, but their Twitter feed also shows what looks to be an iPad running iOS 6 and this is jailbroken too.

The group of developers claims to have jailbroken devices that have the A6 chip, and this means the iPhone 5 included. Of course there have been others claiming to have jailbroken iOS 6 and the iPhone 5, but these have been scammers. There is nothing to suggest that the developers are fakes this time around however.

Developers are getting closer to jailbreaking iOS 6 than they were in September, however the Chronic Dev Team say that there are still some pieces missing before a public release can be offered.

On a more serious note, another jailbreaking team that goes by the name of Dream JB has also promised the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 5. They have even confirmed a December 22nd release date.

So it looks like iPhone 5 owners who wish to jailbreak their phone may have a merry Christmas after all.
