Google Maps App Returns To iOS 6 Thanks To Workaround, Available To Public Shortly

It seems that a hacker has managed to get the Google Maps app back onto the iPhone 5. TheNextWeb said that they had seen a YouTube video which was uploaded by a hacker, that shows Google maps running on the iPhone 3GS with iOS 6. Apple replaced Google Maps with their own map app on iOS 6 and it has seen many problems since coming onto the market.

Google Maps app made to work on iOS 6 days after iPhone 5 jailbroken

Due to these problems we knew that it would only be a matter of time before hackers found a way to bring back Google Maps. Google Maps was installed on the iOS 6 device just days after it was announced that the new iPhone 5 had been jailbroken. This is welcome news of course for those who are fed up with the new map app or who jailbreak their handsets for many other reasons.

The build of Google Maps is buggy at the moment; however the hacker did say that he was getting it ready for the public via Cydia. The phone in the video did not have a SIM card installed, so it is thought that the GPS service is one of the features that the hacker is currently working on.

Nevertheless, the feat of getting Google Maps onto iOS 6 in such a short period of time is a major feat and one that will no doubt be welcomed by fans who are upset with Apple Maps. On a side note, Google is reportedly trying to get its map app on the App Store and is awaiting approval from Apple.
