iOS 6 Untethered Jailbreak: Update For iPhone & iPod Touch

By  |

Everyone wants to know how to jailbreak the iOS 6 firmware and how to install Cydia into the iPhones 4S and 5, so where are these jailbreaks? Are we any closer to an iOS 6 solution? Or should we just go for iOS 6.0.1 already and wait at the next stop?

iOS 6 untethered jailbreak news (iPhone & iPod touch models)

The iPhone dev teams are trying to find and crack exploits in the iOS 6 firmware, and they have made some progress, but only for the iPhone 3GS, the 4 and the iPod Touch 4G. If you’ve got one of these, then you can jailbreak iOS 6. You need to downloads Redsn0w onto your PC, install it, plug your gadget in and follow the instructions.

If you have the 4S you’ll need to wait or downgrade to iOS 5 and then jailbreak it. If you have the iPhone 5, you’ll have no choice but to wait still. The iPhone Dev Team released an iOS 5 jailbreak for the 4S a few months ago – Absinthe – but this is the only one so far. If you upgraded your 4S to iOS 6, you’re stuck until the next one. There is also a tethered jailbreak for the 3GS and the 4S, as well as for the iPod Touch 4G mind you. There are restrictions, though – if your battery runs out or you need to reboot, you’ll have to jailbreak your device all over again. There’s no untethered solution yet, and no word of one, either.

iOS 6 seems to have got developers and hackers against the ropes. If you’re desperate for a jailbreak for iOS and have an iPhone 4S, then revert back to iOS 5. Sadly, iPhone 5 users are caught on iOS 6. It may be that jailbreakers are waiting for iOS 6.1 before revealing their work, which suggests there IS a jailbreak already. Here’s hoping those exploits aren’t going to be closed (iOS 6.1 beta is already out).
