Alongside the announcement of the iPhone 5 earlier today, Apple went ahead and told current iPhone and iPad users when they could expect the long awaited iOS 6 update.

iOS 6 release date for iPhone 4S, 4, 3G & iPad announced

The iOS 6 update will officially be available for the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 3GS, New iPad and the iPad 2 on the 21st of September. As for the iPhone 5, it will come preloaded with the new OS which boasts features like new Maps, Passbook and more.

Furthermore, the iPhone 4 will be available free on contract as the current iPhone models move one peg down since the iPhone 5 will occupy the $199 base point come September 21st when it ships (pre-orders start this Friday the 14th).

The iPhone 5 has managed to live up to the rumors and boasts a 4-inch display, LTE, better battery life, new dock connector and an aluminum/glass finish. It has an A6 processor but retains the same 8MP camera with the added benefits of faster image capture and improved low-light capture.
