Owners of the Nexus 6 haven’t been too happy about the fact that they have had to wait for what seems to be ages for the arrival of the Android 7.1 Nougat. Not to worry though as you can now get a taste of Nougat for your handset.

CyanogenMod are offering the Nexus 6 a custom ROM that will take the device to Android 7.1 Nougat courtesy of CM14.1, which is a nightly build ROM.

There are some things that you should be aware of before you go ahead and install the custom ROM onto your device. First make sure that the handset is rooted and that you have TWRP recovery on it. You also need to ensure that you have the USB drivers installed on your PC for the Nexus 6.

Then head into Menu – Settings – Applications – Developer options and make sure that USB debugging has been turned on.

Finally before you go ahead and install Android 7.1 Nougat on your Nexus 6 you should make sure that the battery level is at least 70%.

Download the CM 14.1 Android 7.1 ROM along with GApps and store it on your computer.

Plug your Nexus 6 into the computer with the USB cable and then copy over the files you downloaded onto the SD card. You can now turn off your handset and unplug it from the computer.

Hold down Volume Up, Home and Power button to go into recovery mode and then use the Volume button for highlights and power for selecting.

Go to wipe data/factory reset and then confirm you want to wipe the handset. Choose wipe cache partition and then wipe dalvik cache.

Choose install zip from sdcard and find the CM14.1 Android 7.1 Nougat zip and go ahead and confirm you want to flash it.

When you have done tis you can repeat the steps above to install GApps on the Google Nexus 6.

You should then head back into the recovery menu and choose reboot system and you now be running Android 7.1 Nougat on your handset.
