FCA Could Surprise With Jeep Pickup Plot Twist

By  |

There could be a bit of a surprise and twist from the FCA in regards to the Jeep pickup as it has been said that the pickup may show up on dealers’ lots disguised in the clothing of the Jeep Ram.

There has been some evidence that this might in fact happen. During an interview the head of development of the Jeep Wrangler pickup said that the development of the pickup, with the body code of JT, has been from 2018 to 2019.

The next generation of the Jeep Wrangler with the code name JL is going into production during November following the retooling of the FCA Toledo North Assembly Plant, from the uni-body to body on frame construction which is slated to start next month.

The current JK Wrangler is going to continue to roll off the Toledo Assembly Complex South Pant throughout April 2018. However sources have said that in April 2018 the plant is going to close for one year while a new paint shop is being added. This is down to the fact that the planned Jeep pickup is too long and it doesn’t fit.

Right now it’s not clear as to whether the Jeep pickup is going to have the current frame, next gen frame of the JL Wrangler or the current or next gen of the Ram 1500 frame. The next gen Wrangler is said to be 8 inches bigger overall so that it can fit in the eight speed automatic transmission.

If the Jeep Wrangler pickup truck did have the same dimensions as the Ram then production would be simplified. But how people would react to a Wrangler pickup that was Ram based isn’t clear.
