Chevrolet Bolt EV: Driver Not Needed Anymore

By  |

We know that automakers are slowly working towards a fully autonomous car for the future and while we probably won’t be seeing one on the road anytime soon, it is clear that we are getting closer than ever.

The Chevrolet Bolt EV was spotted out in the open with the driver clearly not paying attention to the road. In fact, the driver was spotted using his phone with both hands which made it clear that this prototype is some sort of self-driving Bolt model.

It is also styled differently with a flat nose and slight bulge in the front with a few openings. GM did say that they are looking to release a fully autonomous car in 2019. This means the vehicle will come with no steering and no pedals. Everything is up to the vehicle and its safety tech to decide. GM added that all redundant safety features and collision protection equipment for the fully autonomous car is ready as well.

When it does arrive, it will be called the AV1.
