Bentley Mulsanne May Be All Electric By 2018

Bentley cars are well known for being very powerful and along with this the Bentley Mulsanne is also known for being a luxurious vehicle. However there is more as Bentley are making huge strides towards the vehicle being more efficient.

They have been considering adding in a hybrid and plug-in hybrid to the range but now they made have found the ideal solution and be going all-electric. The Bentley Mulsanne may therefore be an all-electric vehicle by 2018.

Hans Holzgartner talked about how they would like to go zero emissions to get into certain Chinese markets. This may mean that they would forget about the V8 6.8 litre engine on the 2018 Bentley Mulsanne and the W12 and go for a different powertrain that would better suit the brand and offer huge torque.

He wasn’t talking about making the move to all-electric in the distant future, instead he pointed out that they may make the move straight away instead of going through a hybrid stage. Should this be the case we can expect to see the 2018 Bentley Mulsanne all-electric towards the end of 2017.

The Mulsanne on the market at the moment makes use of the V8 engine and this offers 530 horses and 811 torque, however it only offers 15mpg combined. So it is looking as though Bentley wants to take on Tesla.

Of course the market in China loves luxury sedans; we have seen this with the long wheelbase versions offered by Mercedes and Audi. Now may be the time for Bentley to get into it with the 2018 Bentley Mulsanne.
