iPhone 5 Demo Units Replaced Weekly Due To Poor Durability (Apple Store)?

The iPhone 5 was launched a couple of months ago and while it has been mostly greeted with praise, there have been fingers pointed about its questionable exterior durability.

Rumor: iPhone 5 demo models in Apple Store replaced weekly

The iPhone 5 rear no longer features a glass finish and hence you don’t have to worry about it shattering like the iPhone 4 and 4S. However what it does suffer from is easily being scuffed. So how easy is it exactly?

We have come across many reports about customers complaining how easy it is to scuff the back and edges of the iPhone 5, especially the black iPhone 5 as the exposed aluminum really contrasts with the black outer finish. Now we have received an interesting tidbit from one of our frequent readers who happens to also be an Apple Store employee.

According to said employee, Apple is replacing those demo iPhone 5 units almost weekly in their stores in order to ensure it is free of any scratches and look brand new. We have to imagine thousands of hands are wrapped around the demo black and white iPhone 5 models on display in the store every week, especially if the store is located in a busy area, and hence it may not be uncommon to find little nicks on the smartphone.

If you happen to work in an Apple Store or any other retailer that puts the iPhone 5 out on display, have you come across a similar occurrence? If so, do tell us.

Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, PC, iPhone and Android games keep Berke busy at work all day. Honestly though we’re not sure why we’re paying him as it should be the other way around.
