Android 4.2: Key Lime Pie Or Minor Jelly Bean Update?

By  |

It seems like only yesterday when we were all getting excited about the release of Jelly Bean. Now, with the LG Nexus 4 and Samsung Galaxy Nexus 10 we are waiting for news about another update to the OS.

LG Nexus 4, Samsung Galaxy Nexus 10 and Android 4.2 (Key Lime Pie or Jelly Bean) rumors

Google have always in the past had a public launch event to announce their major new versions of Android, and they typically launch new products which have that OS preloaded, not too long after the event has taken place. Rumour has it that the LG Nexus 4 will be available one day following the event and it will have Android 4.2 which could either be called Key Lime Pie or stick with the Jelly Bean name.

Whatever its name may be, the “4.2” part looks set. In fact, a PocketNow reader who studied the event invitation that Google had sent out saw clues to this. The invitation shows buildings in the picture, there are four blue ones and two red ones, Android 4.2?

Also there has been numerous leaks regarding benchmarks, along with other info, and an LG executive did more than just give us a hint about the announcement of Android 4.2 at the Google event. In addition to all this, the folks over at CarphoneWarehouse already started taking pre-orders for the LG Nexus 4 in both white and black, while listing Android 4.2 in the specs sheet. Nevertheless given that it was way too early, they quickly took it down after realising what they had done.

So it looks like while we may not be able to get our hands on possible new Nexus devices like the LG Nexus 4 and Samsung Galaxy Nexus 10 next week, the Android 4.2 update could roll out to existing Nexus products like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7. As for the Nexus S, it may be a stretch if this is really a major update and hence the Key Lime Pie name. If it’s another Jelly Bean then Nexus S users may be safe for a little longer.

What do you think? Does this sound about right or is too far fetched? We’ll be at the Google event next week so stay tuned for more updates.
