First Non-Nexus Device To Get Android 4.2 Is…

The need to get updates to our devices has now become an addiction. With this in mind people become glued to their screens looking for AOSP based ROMs whenever a new update rolls out. Then when a thread comes out that is new we are so happy and can’t wait to click on the link to download it.

Android 4.2 update: which non-Nexus device will get the honors first?

The person bringing good news this time around is an XDA developer who goes by the name of randomblame, who has managed to port the latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean build onto the Acer Iconia A500.

Of course this build is the first and happens to have lots of bugs and certain things don’t function as they should. These include the SD card, audio, the camera and Bluetooth. On the plus side Wi-Fi works, so you can get onto the net.

If you want to get your hands on it you will have to bear in mind that the build is nowhere near the final stages, however it will be more usable as time passes. Officially of course, it is the Nexus devices that get the honors first. We have the LG Nexus 4, ASUS Nexus 7 and Samsung Nexus 10 which have first dibs. Next in line is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus which has already received it as well. Unfortunately the Google Nexus S and Motorola XOOM look to be left out.

Dwayne is a jack of all trades. Not only is he an executive editor and collaborates on many stories here at Autoomobile, but he also does artwork and handles the running of the website on a daily basis. We’re not sure what we would do without Dwayne, especially on those days when we have a great scoop and our servers can’t handle the influx of traffic.
