2021 Next-Gen Toyota 86 To Come Without 2.0 Liter Engine?

By  |

Ever since the last Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ, we have not seen or heard anything that might indicate that Toyota and Subaru are looking to build a next-gen model until now.

According to Japan Times, Toyota and Subaru might be working on the next-gen models and that we could be seeing them in 2021. The report also added that the vehicle could be coming in with a different engine as well as new safety features.

It was reported that the 2.0-liter engine might be removed in favor of a 2.4-liter engine. No word on which engine was chosen but some people speculated that it could be the FA24 turbocharged engine that Subaru is currently using to power up the Subaru Ascent. That engine currently offers about 260hp and 277lb ft of torque.

One of the reasons why most people believe a next-gen model was not going to happen was because of the rumors about the development rife with inter-company difficulties. At this point, nobody can confirm anything yet so it is best to take it with a pinch of salt.
