2021 Infiniti Q50: RWD Won’t Be Around For Long

By  |

Infiniti will be making some major changes to their upcoming models and one of the changes that they have confirmed right now is the removal of the current platform.

Instead of the current platform, Infiniti has confirmed that models like the Infiniti Q50 will be riding on the new electrified platform. That means that the vehicle will no longer be offered with an RWD. Instead, it will be coming in with AWD as standard.

Infiniti added that all the products that they offer after 2021 will be electrified and that it should be in sync with the new platform. The current models uses the Nissan FM platform which has been around since 2001. The platform was not made to be fitted with an electric powertrain.

Infiniti also feels like there is no reason to design a new rear wheel drive platform since hybrids and electric would be more common in the future. The first model that will be replaced will most likely be the Q70 so we have that to look forward to.
