Ford has just taken the covers off the new Police Interceptor which is build based on the next-gen 2020 Ford Explorer.

The new Police Interceptor will be coming in with a hybrid powertrain which means improved performance and lower fuel cost. Ford estimated that the hybrid powertrain would help the vehicle save about $3,200 a year compared to a standard non-hybrid model.

It is said that the Polie Interceptor will be able to offer about 24mpg and with the specifically calibrated engine, the vehicle will also be able to switch to maximum performance when needed.

As for the Ford Explorer, the vehicle is expected to arrive as a 2020 model with a rear wheel drive system although all-wheel drive will most likely be offered as an option as well. Powertrain options will most likely include the 2.3-liter turbo four, 2.7 liters twin-turbo V6 along with a 3.5 liter twin-turbo V6 with 400hp.
