2019 Land Rover Defender Brings Off-Road Tech, Waves Goodbye to Wrangler

The Jeep Wrangler has been one vehicle that hasn’t really had any competition. Even the Land Rover Defender wasn’t much competition despite it being a rugged off-road 4×4. When the 2019 Land Rover Defender arrives things could change though at we expect it to offer off-road tech and enhancements that should make it excel and make the Wrangler look rather puny in comparison.

There have been rumors that the Ford Bronco may have arrived on the roads by this time, which should be a serious competitor. However, the 2019 Land Rover Defender is coming with a brand new eight speed dual clutch. This dual clutch has the name of POLAR 3, at the moment, and it offers 442lb-ft torque.

Along with that there is no need for a transfer box on exacting terrain conditions, thanks to the Terrain Response selector that brings added functionalities and the wide ratio set-up of the DCT.

We expect that the 2019 Land Rover Defender is going to offer enough low gears to meet the torque demands off-road, along with offering a ride on the road that is smooth thanks to the high gears.

It may be possible to see the eight-speed DCT appear on other Jeep Land Rover vehicles thanks to the modular design as it is able to accommodate the hybrid powertrains and it will fit in RWD Jaguar models.
